Can you feel the smell of Tet?
Actually, Tet is almost everywhere!
All families are having a rush for cleaning and decorating their houses for a joyful Tet.
Along the streets, Chung Cakes are sold everywhere, the red of lucky money pocket and lanterns spreads all around the city.
Is that enough for a Tet? No, there seems to be lack of something.
It’s flower….
People buy flowers to decorate their houses. Peach blossom is the traditional flower on Tet holiday.
Other flowers can be put in a vase in order to make the house more attractive and lively on these days
Let’s see where these flowers come from and how they travel to every home in Hanoi
So can u guess where peach blossom comes from? Nowhere but Nhat Tan village, the village famous for growing the best peach blossom of VN.
These days, many people go to Nhat Tan not only to buy peach plants but also to enjoy the beauty and fragrance of this flower
Bich Đào is the typical peach that only grows in this village. Fortunately, we had a chance to visit Xuan Hai garden.
The owner shared that he had to pay much effort to grow this kind of flower such as choosing the qualified seeds, fertilizing plants, curving the branches and so on.
The weather this year is quite hot, so peach plants blossom earlier than last year. However, the farmer still be hopeful of the crop and excited about Tet holiday
Different from Nhat Tan village, Tây Tuu village is well-known for many kinds of flowers. Tay Tuu Commune or village has the old name Dam Village, located 15km from Hanoi center to the west.
Apart from the varieties of seasonal flowers, familiar to Hanoians like rose, yellow and white chrysanthemums, peony, violet ... they have imported many stranger kinds of flowers, such as queen, prince and princess chrysanthemums, marigold, Dalat rose, French rose.
Farmers in Tay Tuu used to specialize in traditional agriculture but this yielded a low income. In the 1990s, however, the farmers changed to growing flowering plants and spices.
They first planted daisies imported from Taiwan and Singapore, but now are concentrating on growing roses on a large scale, accounting for 70-80% of all the flowers cultivated in the region, with its productiveness and all year round harvest
With its diversity of flowers and hardworking people, Toy Tutu has become famous not only grace local markets but are also exported abroad, and all the households in the village have become involved in this industry.
From these two villages, flowers are brought to Quant Bad market. Here, they are classified and sold to the customers
At about 2 am, many motorbikes carrying flowers arrive at the market. The drivers are all in a hurry finding a place to park and arranging flowers.
Flowers are placed right on the bikes or in small shops under bright light.
The market is full of colors: yellow of daisy, red of rose, purple of violet, orange of dahlia….
On Tet holiday, this market is more crowded than usual.
Some people come here just to enjoy the fresh air and beauty of flowers at night.
Some come here to purchase some flowers at a lower price.
They talk, bargain, and chat, which makes the market noisy even at night.
The night market closes at dawn but the journey of flowers hasn’t ended yet.
From the night market, the vendors circle the streets on bicycles full of roses, lotuses, daisies and many other flowers.
They leave behind their buds’ sweet scent mixing with the crisp morning air.
Their peddling is the only sound breaking the quiet of dawn.
The city wakes up, and the street vendors start carrying flowers to every corner of Hanoi, bringing Tet atmosphere to every home.
Tet is really coming!
